My time at Wet Dog Forge has officially begun. Today was a shorter work session, but still fun and insightful all the same! I need to get the basics down before I begin the more complicated stuff after all.
My First Creation
A small thing, but one of importance nonetheless. A simple shape, with meaning. Once it was done and looked nice (for a first time piece anyway), I decided that I am going to give it to my grandma, I know she will love it.
My arm is extremely tight after all the hammer swinging.
Using the tongs proficiently is going to take some practice. Watching my teacher makes it look so easy and smooth.
Back to Square 1
As is with any discipline, you need to start at the beginning and get the basics down if you are going to succeed. I feel like a white-belt again, when I started my Karate training 7 years ago. Learning the muscle memory of how to properly hold/swing the hammer, how to bend the metal properly, even how to stand against the anvil correctly! I feel like I am learning my first kata again, and I am already loving it!
Outside the Forge
The reason I say this will be a summer of fighting, not just forging, is because I will be getting some firearms training from my teacher as well. I have always wanted to learn to how shoot, but never had the opportunity. I completed my safety training courses, but did not go out and handle the firearms much. But now I finally have the chance to learn to how to handle these tools safely and effectively.
Goal for the Forge
Aside from making gifts for some friends, my end goal is to gain an overall understanding of how to forge different kinds of weapons. I want to then take that knowledge with me into the gaming industry and see if I cannot get some fans interested. With both the knowledge of how to make such weapons and my knowledge of martial arts, I want to help offer insight, and design weaponry for games. See how I can make them look cool and be somewhat realistic.
